# License

Which license covers the ParticleDB server and which covers the SDKs and client libraries.

Source: https://particledb.ai/license/

ParticleDB ships under two licenses.

| What | License |
|---|---|
| The ParticleDB server and engine: the `particledb` binaries, including the free edition | **ParticleDB License** (proprietary) |
| SDKs and client libraries: JDBC driver, Java, Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, Go, Rust and the other language clients | **MIT License** |

## ParticleDB License (server)

Copyright (c) 2026 Orkes, Inc. All rights reserved.

The ParticleDB server is proprietary software. The source code is not published. Use of ParticleDB binaries, including the free edition, is governed by the terms published with the distribution or by a separate written agreement with Orkes, Inc.

## MIT License (SDKs and client libraries)

Every SDK and client library is published under the MIT License, and each package carries its own `LICENSE` file. You may use, copy, modify and redistribute the SDKs, including in commercial and closed-source software, under the MIT terms.

Releases published before an SDK moved to MIT stay under the license they were published with; see [Releases and clients](/installation/releases/) for the first MIT version of each SDK.
