# Use the web console

Use ParticleDB console tools where your distribution includes them, and choose a client when it does not.

Source: https://particledb.ai/getting-started/web-console/

The web console provides browser-based database tools in distributions that include it. Its packaging and startup options are separate from the SQL language.

## Open the console

Use the console address printed or documented by your installed distribution, commonly `http://localhost:7174`. A console address is not a database connection string.

The server does not accept `--console-addr`; port 7174 is not an automatically started SQL endpoint. If your installation does not include a separately packaged console, use the HTTP quickstart or a language client.

## Work with data

Where available, use the SQL editor to run queries and inspect results, the table view to inspect records, and dashboards for operational views. Use your configured database credentials and application permissions.

## If the console is unavailable

Follow the [HTTP quickstart](/getting-started/quickstart/) or choose a [language client](/sdks/overview/). The database does not require a browser console to accept queries.

## Access control

Keep administrative tools on a trusted network and configure authentication. Do not expose an unauthenticated console to the public internet. [Security](/guides/security/).
